    About The Department :

    Introduction:

    Telugu is a major Dravidian Language.  It is the fifteenth largest language in the world.  Its inscriptional History starts from 575 A.D.   Telugu is unique in its literary tradition and cultural heritage.  The Department of Telugu Language and Translation Studies focus upon the study of Telugu Language and Literature in relation to other languages and modern applications of language studies.

    Aims & Objectives:


      • Developing Telugu Studies in relation to other major languages of the Dravidian family
      • Developing modern applications of language studies with specific emphasis on the present day job market
      • Focus upon the comparative aspects of Dravidian Literature and Heritage
      • Imparting special training in Translation Activity


      Departmental Activities :

      1. Zero Hour

      This is being held by the staff every Thursday. It is meant to develop interest in students on literature. Any question on literature is entertained. M.A. Previous and Final Students are asked to prepare questions of their interest regarding Telugu Literature and they are answered. This programme is being conducted for the two months. The span is generally 1½ hours.

      2. Varam Varam Kavitaharam

      To bring out the hidden talent in the students ‘Varam Varam Kavitaharam is launched. We invite poetry from students of the University and the best of them is displayed every week on Wednesday. Once in a month the best poem is taken for translation into other Dravidian Languages. Along with this a best stanza from Telugu literature with meaning in paraphrase is also being displayed every week.

      3. Weekly Seminars

      Students are asked to present seminar papers on various subjects related to their curriculum. They prepare papers of their interest and present them in the midst of students and staff and the papers are even open for discussion.      

      4. Celebrations

      Birth and death anniversaries are being celebrated by the department to enable the future generation to know the service rendered by great scholars to the language and literature. And days like Language day in memory of Gidugu Ramamurthy on August 29th and Matru Bhasha Dinotsovam on February 22nd are also being celebrated by the department.

      5. 21st Century Bhuvana Vijayam.

      The Department of Telugu conducts discourses on a variety of  Topics in the form of Bhuvana Vijayam. An eminent scholars belongs to different disciplines would deliver lectures of National and International importance on every last Saturday of the month.
