    Department of English and Communications

    About The Department :

    The Department of English and Communications was established in December 2005 with one Professor and one Associate Professor and three Assistant Professors the Department launched the courses in U.G, Five year Integrated and Two Year P.G. The Board of Studies broad-based enough to include scholars and experts in different areas prepared the curriculum for all courses.  The Courses are so designed to equip the students with effective communication, literary, analytical and evaluative skills. The course material is designed by incorporating the contemporary approaches to language and literature. At present there two Professors and three Assistant Professors in the Department

    Objectives :
    1. It is the cherished goal of the Department to break new grounds by designing innovative techniques in teaching and research which are hardly attempted elsewhere as the most of the students joining the courses come rural backgrounds and from regional medium.
    2. To orient the students towards the regional and local cultures by incorporating Dravidian writing in English translations without affecting the conventional canon.
    3. To provide comparative perspectives of learning by juxtaposing, comparing, contrasting literatures across cultures and languages.
    4. To encourage the students to undertake translation of Indian texts into English as an attempt at reaching other comers of the world. 
    5. To develop the Department into a Centre for Comparative and Translation Studies.

    Seminars and Workshops:

    The Department has organized a number of seminars, symposia and workshops. Mention may be made of the following:
    1. Organized a national seminar “Towards an Indian Theory of Translation” a from 28th April to 30th   2008.  
    1. Organized a national seminar“Dravidian Literatures in English Translations” a two-day national seminar held at Dravidian University Kuppam During 15-16 April 2008
    1. Conducted a Workshop “Teaching Literatures in English: Contemporary Trends and Techniques.” On  March 25th and 26th , 2009.
    1. Organized a national seminar on Tagore on the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Tagore on 20.04.2011 .
    1. Organized a three day international Seminar on “Teaching Literatures in English for Cross Cultural Communications” from  8th August to 10th  August, 2011.
